Pool Renovation in Atlanta, GA

A Pool Renovation Should Be More Than a Cosmetic Makeover

Pool renovation in Atlanta, from resurfacing and remodeling to tile, coping and deck work, handled by a team that cares for pools every week.

A pool renovation should do more than make an old pool look new. At BluVantage, we look at the whole pool before we recommend anything: the interior finish, waterline tile, coping and deck, plus the plumbing, circulation, equipment, lighting and automation behind them. You’ll know what needs attention now, what can reasonably wait, and what’s purely cosmetic.

We’re a pool company, not a general contractor who takes the occasional pool job. Our team services, repairs and renovates pools across Metro Atlanta, so we understand how a new surface or coping line affects the rest of the system. Our goal is a pool that looks better, runs better and is easier to maintain for years to come.

Pool Resurfacing in Atlanta

Every pool finish wears down eventually. Water chemistry, Georgia summer heat, sun exposure and years of use slowly break down the surface. You’ll usually notice it as a rough texture on your feet, stains that won’t brush out, fading color, or small cracks and hollow spots. A worn surface is more than an eyesore. It gives algae more places to hold on, makes water chemistry harder to keep in balance, and can let water reach the shell underneath.

Pool resurfacing replaces the worn interior with a new finish. We drain the pool, prepare the existing surface, make any repairs the shell needs, and apply the new finish. Then we take care of the startup that follows.

If the shell is sound and you mainly dislike how the pool looks, resurfacing with new waterline tile is usually enough. You don’t need a full remodel, and we’ll tell you so.

Plaster vs. Quartz vs. Pebble: Choosing a Pool Finish

The right finish comes down to the look you want and your budget. These are the main options we install:

  • Traditional plaster. A smooth, classic finish, usually white or light colored. It’s the most budget-friendly option, though it is the least resistant to staining and wear of the three.
  • Quartz. Plaster blended with quartz aggregate. It resists staining and etching better than standard plaster and comes in a much wider range of colors.
  • Pebble and aggregate finishes. Small natural pebbles set in the finish create a textured, natural look. Pebble finishes are among the most durable interior surfaces available and usually carry a higher upfront cost.
  • Premium colored and textured finishes. For homeowners who want a specific water color or a more custom look, we can walk you through premium options.

We’ll show you samples during your consultation and explain how each one fits the way you use your pool.

Why Startup Matters for a New Finish

The first few weeks after resurfacing have a big effect on how long a new finish lasts and how it looks. A new surface needs careful water balancing and regular brushing while it cures. Because we’re a pool service company, we handle that startup ourselves.

Pool Tile and Coping Replacement

Waterline tile and coping frame your pool, and they take a lot of abuse. Tile can crack, lose grout or build up calcium that won’t come off. In Atlanta it also collects a yellow pollen film every spring, and heavy storms can wash red clay into the pool and stain the grout line. Coping can loosen, chip or shift, and when it does, water can get behind it and damage the structure underneath.

We replace and upgrade waterline tile, and we repair or replace coping. When we remove old coping, we inspect what’s under it so any structural damage gets fixed before the new material goes on. Pairing new tile and coping with a resurfacing project is one of the most noticeable upgrades you can make to an older pool.

Pool Deck Renovation and Resurfacing

A tired deck can make even a freshly resurfaced pool look dated. BluVantage handles pool deck resurfacing and renovation across Atlanta, either doing the work ourselves or coordinating it, for:

  • Concrete pool decks
  • Pavers
  • Natural stone, travertine and similar stone surfaces
  • Deck coatings and resurfacing systems
  • Repairs to cracked, deteriorated or aging surfaces around the pool

Because we plan the deck together with the pool, the coping, tile and deck materials are chosen as one design.

Equipment, Lighting and Automation Upgrades

A renovation is the best time to look at the systems behind your pool. With the pool already drained and the work area open, it’s often the most practical time to replace an aging pump, filter or heater, update plumbing and circulation, add LED lighting, or move to smart automation. Learn more about our equipment upgrades and automation services.

We’ll tell you which upgrades make sense now and which can wait, so you’re not paying for work your pool doesn’t need yet.

Our Pool Renovation Process

  1. Consultation and pool inspection. We meet with you, inspect the pool and equipment, talk through what you’d like to change, and look for functional issues the renovation should address.
  2. Scope and recommendations. We put together a recommended scope of work and help you sort out what’s necessary, what’s recommended and what’s purely aesthetic.
  3. Material and finish selection. We help you choose interior finishes, tile, coping, deck materials, lighting and equipment based on your goals and budget.
  4. Proposal and project planning. Once the scope and selections are set, we provide pricing and the planned schedule for your project.
  5. Preparation and construction. We prepare the pool and complete the demolition, surface prep, plumbing, electrical, hardscape and equipment work your project calls for.
  6. Finish and startup. We refill the pool and balance the water carefully. With a new interior finish, proper startup is especially important for how well the surface lasts and how it looks.
  7. Final walkthrough and ongoing care. We review the finished project with you. If you’d like, we can keep caring for the pool through our Complete Care weekly pool service.

How Long Does a Pool Renovation Take?

It depends on the scope. A straightforward resurfacing project takes considerably less time than a complete renovation that includes tile, coping, decking and equipment. Each project gets its own schedule, and we share it with you in your proposal.

What Affects the Cost of Pool Resurfacing and Renovation in Atlanta?

No two renovations cost the same. The biggest factors are:

  • Pool size and shape, including steps, benches and an attached spa
  • The interior finish you choose (plaster, quartz, pebble or premium)
  • The condition of the existing surface and how much prep or repair the shell needs
  • Whether waterline tile and coping are being replaced
  • Deck and hardscape work
  • Equipment, plumbing, lighting and automation upgrades
  • Site access for crews and materials

The most reliable way to know what your project will cost is an in-person evaluation. We’ll look at your pool, talk through options at different price points, and give you a written proposal.

Signs Your Pool Is Ready for a Renovation

  • The surface feels rough, or it’s stained, etched or faded
  • You see cracks, chips or hollow-sounding spots in the finish
  • Waterline tile is cracked, missing or covered in calcium that won’t come off
  • Coping is loose, cracked or separating from the pool
  • The pool loses water or needs more chemicals than it used to
  • Equipment is aging, noisy or expensive to run
  • The pool simply looks dated and you no longer enjoy using it

Project Spotlight: From Green and Failing to Swim-Ready

When we first saw this pool, the water was green, the interior finish was worn and stained, and sections of the coping had deteriorated down to the structure beneath. We drained and cleaned the pool and spa, repaired the damage under the coping, installed new waterline tile, prepared the shell, and applied a new blue interior finish to both the pool and spa. Once the finish was complete, we refilled the pool and handled the startup. The result is a pool that looks new again and has a sound structure behind the finish.

Why Atlanta Homeowners Choose BluVantage for Pool Renovations

Pools are all we do. We focus on pool service, repair and renovation, so we know how finishes, tile and coping interact with circulation, filtration, plumbing, heating, lighting and automation. Here’s what that means for your project:

  • We help you separate necessary repairs from recommended improvements and purely aesthetic upgrades.
  • We plan for how your pool will run years from now, and we say so when a cheaper fix will do.
  • You’ll know what’s happening and what comes next at every stage of the work.
  • When the renovation is done, our Complete Care weekly service can take over the routine care.

Many projects include manufacturer warranties on specific finishes, equipment or materials, as well as workmanship coverage. We’ll explain exactly what applies to your project in your proposal.

After Your Renovation: Ongoing Care

A new finish lasts longest with consistent care. Our Complete Care weekly pool service keeps the water balanced and the surfaces brushed, and our technicians watch the equipment so small problems get caught early.

Balanced water matters for swimmers as much as for the finish. The CDC’s healthy swimming guidance explains why chlorine and pH levels need regular checks.

Pool Resurfacing and Renovation FAQs

Answers to the questions Atlanta homeowners ask most about resurfacing and renovating a pool.

It depends mostly on the size of the pool and the finish you pick. Plaster is the least expensive, quartz sits in the middle, and pebble costs the most. Shell repairs, new waterline tile, coping work and an attached spa all add to the price. We don't quote over the phone, because two pools of the same size can need very different prep. After an evaluation, we give you a written estimate with options at different price points.

Usually, yes, if the shell is structurally sound. A worn surface gets rough, stains easily and gives algae a place to grip, which means more chemicals and more brushing every week. A new finish fixes that and protects the shell underneath. It isn't worth it when the pool has bigger problems, like a leak or failing structure, that should be repaired first. We'll tell you which situation you're in.

Late fall through early spring is usually the best window in Atlanta. Most people aren't swimming, crews have more availability than during the spring rush, and the pool is ready by summer. The one caution is cold weather: a new finish shouldn't go on during a freeze, so we schedule around the forecast. If you want the pool ready by Memorial Day, start planning in winter.

Replastering is one type of resurfacing. Replastering means applying a new coat of traditional plaster. Resurfacing is the broader term and covers any new interior finish, including quartz and pebble. People use the two words interchangeably, so ask any contractor exactly which finish their quote includes.

Yes. Most remodels work with the pool you already have. Common upgrades include a new interior finish, new waterline tile and coping, a renovated deck, LED lighting, and new equipment or automation. If what you have in mind goes beyond a renovation, such as major structural changes, we'll tell you up front.

If the surface is still smooth and the problem is mostly stains, an acid wash or a stain treatment may be enough. An acid wash removes a thin layer of the finish, though, so it isn't something to repeat often. If the surface feels rough, sounds hollow when tapped, is flaking or shows bare spots, cleaning won't fix it. That's when resurfacing is the right call.

Quotes often vary because they aren't pricing the same job. One may include crack repair, new tile and the spa while another leaves them out. When you compare quotes, check the finish type and brand, how the old surface will be prepared, whether shell repairs and the spa are included, who handles startup, and what warranty applies. A low number that leaves those out tends to grow once work starts.

It depends on the finish and its startup instructions, so follow those over any general rule. With a new plaster finish, the first days are spent brushing the surface and balancing the water while it cures, and swimming waits until the water chemistry is stable. We walk you through the timing for your specific finish before the pool is filled.

Some color variation is normal, especially with plaster, and it often evens out over the first few months as the finish cures. Fine surface lines can also appear. Hollow spots, flaking, rough patches or cracks you can catch a fingernail on are not normal. Have whoever installed the finish look at those while the warranty still applies.

DIY kits exist, mostly epoxy paints, but a plaster, quartz or pebble finish isn't a realistic DIY project. It goes on in one continuous application by an experienced crew, and the surface prep and startup decide whether it lasts. A bad application usually means paying to strip it and start over. If budget is the concern, ask us about the most affordable finish that suits your pool.
